Depeche Mode Stamps and a Scarf

I enjoy knitting when flying, staying in hotels or riding in cars.  So before my first trip of the year, I sent out a tweet on Twitter asking if anyone wanted a scarf.  One friend I have yet to meet tweeted back right away and requested a scarf!  He didn’t ask for a specific color or design – he just wanted a scarf and he was a fellow Depeche Mode fan.  I figured a black scarf would be nice and neutral since I didn’t know his tastes.  He wanted me to surprise him, so I added the “DM” after I knit the scarf and oh boy, was he surprised!

I flew just three times last year (Las Vegas in June for business, Anaheim in August for business, and LA in October to see several Recoil shows & meet up with Twitter and Facebook friends) and I think I finished the scarf on my first trip, but I wasn’t happy with how the “DM” turned out.  It took me until the last week of the year to finally mail the scarf to my friend.  He lives in NYC and it arrived just after that crazy snowfall they had.

The scarf is laying on some custom tissue paper I made – click any picture to see a larger version:

I also made Christmas wrap for another friend’s gift:

I made the tissue wrap with custom Depeche Mode stamps I ordered online.  As far as I know, there is no company that sells these stamps – you have to upload your design as a file and the company will create stamps based on your art.  I should add this disclaimer – I have never sold any of my knitted or paper-crafted creations.  Everything I make is done with love for friends, family and clients.  Real Estate is my business – being creative is just my hobby.

I have always wanted to make cards with the Violator rose and I am so excited that now I can!!  This card was difficult to photograph, but the scarf recipient got this card from me.  It’s shimmery black cardstock with an embossed shiny red rose.

About Stephanie Chumbley

Growing up in the shadow of the Space Needle, I loved drawing portraits with a #2 pencil and sometimes a ballpoint pen because I liked the challenge. I collected pens and pencils and enjoyed looking at fonts and logos and replicating them by hand. I was in AP art classes in high school and took some graphic design classes at Seattle Central. While in college, I had a part-time job making signs for Drug Emporium / Longs Drugs with my "Steph Font." In my 20s, I made a lot of invitations for dinner parties and later, when I bought my Cricut Expression electronic cutter in 2008, I started making cards for all occasions. In 2009, I discovered Close to My Heart and enjoyed being my Consultant's best customer... but in May 2011, I finally gave in and became and Independent Consultant. It was a very good decision! :-) Nearly everything I make is given away or sold so others can enjoy some handmade art. I've made over 1,000 cards and projects and this blog serves as a way to share and hopefully inspire others to create projects of their own. Someday I hope to catch up and blog about all the cards I've made.
