When I was in Las Vegas last month during my wild tour of 9 states in 16 days, I stopped at the Hard Rock Hotel to pick up some more Depeche Mode poker chips for my friends. I bought $100 worth and sold them at face value or gave them to special friends as surprises. I can’t just mail someone their chip in a boring envelope – you know me… I have to wrap it in a fun card! So, I designed these cards after a t-shirt I’d made.
If you don’t listen to Depeche Mode, I’ll explain the symbolism. On the “It’s No Good” CD single album cover, Depeche Mode used an upside down fleur-de-lis and it has become a Depeche Mode symbol. DM has angels in a few of their videos and in the song “Precious,” the lyrics mention “angels with silver wings.” So, the t-shirt and cards were designed from these images.
I found a fleur-de-lis and a set of angel wings at the craft store and cut the wings apart to position them where I wanted.
Then I found this pretty jeweled fleur-de-lis iron on for the front of my shirt!
I made 30 cards and sent them all over the world – Spain, England, Finland, the East Coast, Colorado, California…
I used VersaMark ink and a stamp to make the background and then used prismatic Pearl Ex powders to make them shimmer. Using my Cricut cartridges, I cut out the paper shapes and popped the fleur-de-lis with double stick foamy tape.
This was my absolute favorite card but I only made one because the wings took too long to deal with, due to all the detail.
